Cairo Canals – Negatives and Positives

While working on my Canals project in Cairo I decided to keep the typically thrown-out negative section of the print for further adaptation. The inky-black rectangles, a mixture of various chemicals, gathered dirt and sand while traveling around the city in the back of a taxi. Once back in the US, I tested out a process to try and reveal the original image imprinted on the film. The end result came with mixed results. However, I was still interested in seeing what I could do with the negatives.

After several months I approached the idea again only this time I layered the negatives over their Polaroid counterparts using a plug-in for Lightroom. While the results where again mixed, this particular experiment has opened up  some new ideas on playing around with the relationship between memory and time.
